First Encounters in the Land of the Wahgoshig

A group of Franco-Ontarians accept an invitation from the Algonquin people of the Wahgoshig reserve to visit their Northern Ontario community. For two weeks, the group learn about the daily life of this Indigenous people and their culture. Through the four episodes, the public gets a glimpse of the links being forged between Indigenous and non-Indigenous cultures and is encouraged to let go of preconceived notions and assumptions about First Nations people and life on a reservation.

You have to go a few dozen metres below ground to find the Wahgoshigs’ other reality: the mine. The group learns about the difficult choices the community must make between protecting the environment and furthering their economic development.
